Pentecost Sunday, Worship and Communion, May 31, 2020

Welcome! It’s Pentecost Sunday and we are also celebrating communion. Today Rev. Dr. Gareth Icenogle is preaching from Job and Acts 2, “ENTERING THE EXPANSE OF GOD” as we continue in our series entitled, “Life and Faith and God in the Extremity.” Print the order of service and the music (click here).

We are excited to have the Chancel Bell Choir participating in worship! They are ringing the Katie Hart Handbells for the first time in the LPC Sanctuary! Katie Hart, beloved daughter of Mike and Sara, died in 1988, a memorial fund was established in her name to purchase handbells. For many years, those handbells were rung in worship at Irvine Presbyterian Church (now Shepherd’s Grove Church) to honor God, and to remember a little girl who loved Jesus, her church, and music. Through the kindness of the Session of Shepherd’s Grove Church, we were able to add these beautiful handbells to our existing handbell instrument, and are fortunate to give them a new home at Laguna Presbyterian Church.

Leading in the liturgy this morning are Rev. Dr. Steve Sweet and Rev. Dr. Kathy Sizer, Isaac Manriquez, Beth Pinney, Abigail and Olivia Garcia, Gail Onodera, Anne Herzog, Sookyung Bang, and LPC’s Chancel Bell Choir. Our Safe-at-Home readers are Gary Mills and Virginia Grogan.

Videography by Nathan Sweet. Sound engineering by Thor Fay. Directing the production is Linda White, Director of Choirs.

“Jesus Feeds the 5000” – Prayer of Imagination led by Ceil Sharman.

You don’t need to bring anything with you, just be still and listen for God speaking to your through the passage.

Do you have a question or would you like more input on any of the mindful prayer forms? (email: mindfulprayerlaguna@gmail.com)

Prayer of Imagination is one of several spiritual practices useful for helping us engage Scripture. In this video Ceil and Kathy talk about how our God-given imaginations can place us into the stories of Scripture to hear God speak to us. Ceil then guides us through a familiar story in the New Testament that may help us to address our fears during this time of CoVid-19.

Video Postling

Radiant Spring by Anna Hills

This video tells a visual history of the men and women who laid the foundation for Laguna Presbyterian Church. The story is told through the use of historic photos gathered from the 1890’s through the 1970’s. Added to that collection are many contemporary photos taken over the years of the mission and ministries of Laguna Presbyterian Church, along with the addition of photos from this year, 2017, as we celebrated the 100th anniversary of LPC at various gatherings and through various outreach ministries. We are indebted to Jim Hind, our LPC Historian, and to Rick Lang and John Cullings, our photographers in by profession and in ministry. The music credits may be found at the end of the video. Enjoy!

Come, join us in worship on Sundays at 8:30am and 10:30am! We are located in the heart of downtown Laguna Beach and we seek to extend God’s welcome and hospitality to all!
